When & Where
Starts: May 1, 2025
Ends : May 8, 2025About Macaw Lodge, San José, Carara
Nestled among the hills and lush forests of the Cerros de Turrubares, in the Central Pacific region of Costa Rica, Macaw Lodge is more than just an eco-resort. It is a paradise where you can pamper your senses and discover the genuine natural wonders of Costa Rica.
Around the lodge is a tropical botanical garden of 5 hectares with more than 500 species of heliconias and bromeliads from all over the world, including ornamental, medicinal and agricultural plants. Wherever you look or walk there is something amazing to see and experience! The 264-acre property offers eight acres of cultivated trails where you can stroll through the giant black bamboo forest, hike to the waterfall and take a refreshing swim, enjoy a break in the gazebo overlooking the lagoon or take refuge in the palm forest. Stop to participate in a rejuvenating exercise at one of the two outdoor yoga studios, explore the fruit and cocoa orchard, or take a guided tour of the sustainable farming operation and learn more about hydroponics, aquaponics, vermiculture and composting.

The Yoga Classes & Meditations:
The morning yoga sessions will be dedicated to alignment, sequencing, creating strength and mobility within healthy boundaries.
The therapeutic sessions will be intended for full body, mind and heart relaxation through yin and restorative yoga, along with sound healing and basic calming massage techniques.
The main goal for these practices will be to guide the participant to prepare, relax and ground the body and mind to receive the journey with the medicines.
The morning meditation sessions will be guided with simple pranayama (breath work) tools and some sound healing support.

The Shamanic Sessions
Carmela encourages inner work as much as any other practice during her retreats. Her psychology background enhances the possibility of working the heart path and opening support spaces for the participants to willingly address emotional weights. This work is done with extreme care and responsibility for everyone to feel safe.
We have chosen the loving and powerful essence of Cacao, Hapé and Sananga to be carefuly given and honored during our retreats.
Shamanism is the most ancient form of spiritual practice dating back tens of thousands of years and found across all world cultures. Shamanic practices occur both in the realm of things seen and the realm of things unseen.
Shamanism reminds us that everything is interconnected and that separation from the natural world is not just an illusion but creates many of the diseases of the modern world.
Today, western cultures are craving a deeper and more genuine connection with Spirit and nature. Hence, Shamanism has evolved to fit the needs of modern society and Master Plant medicines that once were only permitted to Shamans, are now accessible to people in search of healing and spiritual awareness.
The space holder creates a safe and sacred space for the plant teacher to do its work and provides integration and support.
